The Hard Disk Between The Past And The Future

Yesterday Liew Added a nice picture for the First Computer with a Hard Disk in the World. So I said to my self:”Hmmmm..If the Hard Disk was this big then How small is it today?!

So I did a quick search for the smallest Hard Disk in the World and Find out that Toshiba built an interesting Hard Disk in 2005 which lead them right away to Guinness Book of Records as the world’s smallest hard disk. And now see the following picture where you`ll see the two (old and new) Hard Disks.

So did you spot the new hard disk?!….No! well don’t bother your self, you`ll not gonna find it…want to know the reason?!Ok then check this out!!

It`s the first 0.85″ hard drive…which comes with 2GB and 4GB of capacity. Toshiba said:

Toshiba’s 0.85-inch HDD is the first hard disk drive to deliver multi-gigabyte data storage in a sub-one-inch form factor. The 0.85-inch measurement refers to the diameter of the magnetic disk to which data is recorded. With initial capacities of 2 to 4 gigabytes (GB) the drive delivers enhanced storage to smaller, lighter, more efficient products, such as mobile phones, digital camcorders and portable storage devices.

It’s amazing where we’ve been and where we are now!
I’m wondering what would the HDD looks like in 10 years?!
Well I have a feeling that someday we’ll use air to store data!
-An empty glass box connected to the computer with cables written on it..”CAUTION: Don’t shake or Heat, otherwise all data may vaporised or corrupted!” :)-
