Graphics or Coding…What is Your Choice?!

As usual, Lorelle wrote a great article on The Blog Herald blog, discussing the importance of the interface/design and what-is-really-matter issue.

By judging websites on their surface levels, web designers tend to present the perspective that the surface is the only part that matters. Sorry, folks. It’s the power of the code underneath the surface that makes a web design powerful. And beautiful. Not the pretty face.

Aaaah, this sentence -in bold- is a killer!
Just like “Code is Poetry“…it says everything. There are a lot of websites, that have the “look”, but did you try to test them in 800×600 or in IE6, for example?! And the worst…both cases!

For this..just check out the great dropshadow theme at 800×600 in both FF and IE6, is it the same original theme?! now check out my modified version and tell me what do you think?

I did a lot of coding to it, so it looks as it`s now. The point is, if you spend a lot of your time on graphics and forgot the most important thing, yes coding, then you may end up banned from google, or just at the 100000 position for your targeted keywords! Because of bad SEO template. And then, tell me what is your site really worth?!

At the end, and as Lorelle said,

Next time you start judging a website by its looks only, look deeper. Look at the navigational structure, the ease of access, accessibility features and usability features. The easier a web page is for a visitor to use and move around the site with, the more powerful the design.

Questions for you

  • What do you think…..Graphics or coding?!
  • what`s your experience in this field?

It’s it amazing. The article I featured was written in 2004 and after three years of amazing technological developments on the web, the same issues still apply. We are still judging surfaces and not looking deeper.

I’m glad you got it. I fear that not many will get the point of the article. Thanks for being one of the sharp sticks in the pile. ;-)

It`s a fact, and I don’t think this will change as most internet users don’t even know what coding really is!
So obviously they will judge the “surface”, the big problem and the shame when a web-designer thinks that way!

    Thanks for passing by!
