AMD announced the introduction of 65nm processor portfolio!

Today AMD announced the introduction of 65nm processor portfolio, beginning with immediate availability of energy efficient AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 X2 dual-core desktop socket AM2 processors.

And in the Q1 of 2007 AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ and 5000+ will be available and shipping to OEM and system builder customers.,including Dell and HP, as well as more than 40 leading system builders worldwide.

  • 4000+ (2.1Ghz, 2×512KB L2 Cache, 65W)
  • 4400+ (2.3GHz, 2×512KB L2 Cache, 65W)
  • 4800+ (2.5GHz, 2×512KB L2 Cache, 65W)
  • 5000+ (2.6GHz, 2×512KB L2 Cache, 65W)

These new 65 watt processors are designed to deliver improved performance-per-watt by maintaining the performance of previous 90nm products and reducing power.

In addition, a new feature benefit added to the 65nm parts to aid in reducing power consumption is C1E. C1 Enhanced (CIE) is an advanced power management feature to slow select system functions when not in use to reduce overall power consumption. A 55.3 percent power savings can be observed at idle with Cool’n’Quiet™ with C1E support when compared to idle with no Cool’n’Quiet support.

And because the 65nm desktop processors are based on socket AM2, there`s no need to change the current socket AM2 motherboards.

With the energy efficient technology,Do you think that we still need the same Power Supply unit?!
